Improvisation of the Week
Even Darker, more mysterious improvisation…. Well really, it’s just a study of the Phrygian mode, in a demented manner, hence the sub-title… Again, for mood, candlelight was necessary, so sorry about the video quality.. But let’s face it, no-one cares about my ugly mug, it’s the audio quality that matters, and that’s fine!
A Dark, candlelit Improvisation…. Watch out…
With all the weather we had, i figures it was necessary…
A long break ended by the snow & christmas. I wanted to do White Christmas, so i thought i should at least make time for one wafer thin improvisation!!!
And here is the 3rd one. I think this is my favourite so far of the improvisations. It’s a bit cheekier than the others, i’m finally being a bit more relaxed & enjoying it. Less concentration, more music.
And the second piece from that sunny morning.
Here is the first of 3 improvisations i did on wednesday morning, sat in the garden with the sun actually shining down. Lovely. Since i’ve been a bit slack in posting for the last month (busy, busy) i thought i’d put all 3 up.
Nothing fancy this time, just a made up bit of guitar playing, in a nice relaxed setting.
So, did this one last week, specifically for Dennis Chang to appraise. Which, if anyone is interested, is HERE. So, it’s a bit of a cop out, as far as pure improvisation is concerned, playing along to a pre-recorded backing. But, i wanted “a bit of everything” in this one so you get solo, slow, medium & fast all in the same piece. Next time will be more spontaneous, i promise…
Well, it’s time for weekly improvisation#2, and this week i present a piece inspired by a story by Bob Holo, to be found HERE
The last chord should resolve so perfectly that no-one (not even Django) could play it effectively, so i’ve left it for you to picture it in your own head (where it will be perfect).Place it where i do a silent strum, or leave yourself hanging, i don’t mind.
Oh, and this one utilises my Digitech Jamman, which i’m sure will become more familiar as time goes on..

"Playing" Django are a gypsy jazz swing group based in Birmingham. They delight and amaze audiences around the country with their interpretations of the classic sounds of swing from Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli.
